Custom-Made Products
CAM has always produced its own bioceramic coating powders, and found out long ago that it could best achieve the desired material characteristics by playing the bioceramic parameters in the early stage of preform production. Here, we determine exactly what resorption, micro and macro porosity, crystallinity, density, adhesion, or compressive strength is going to be. More importantly, we do so by creating single molecules that contain these characteristics instead of mixing components later in the process when their individual, chemical behavior has already established itself and can no longer be changed.
This can only be done when Calcium Hydroxide, the first material in the process, is of absolute purity. Unfortunately, Calcium Hydroxide, found in quarries around the world, is a natural resource and is usually polluted with a diversity of trace elements. We continuously search for batches of Calcium Hydroxide that are below well-defined thresholds of those trace elements we know to have a negative impact on our desired material characteristics.
An example of an important product feature is sphericity. The sphericity of a granule may play a critical role, depending on the application. For certain soft-tissue applications, CAM Implants has developed patented, ultra-smooth, dense particles that facilitate the use of bioceramic materials not only in bone, but also specifically in soft tissue.
Our bioceramic know-how enables us to develop custom-made bioceramic materials for a wide range of biomedical applications and an increasing number of customers, each with their own specifications.
Once a pioneer in the field of bioceramic coatings, CAM Implants bv is now constantly searching for new bioceramic materials, and developing new materials for medical applications on a daily basis.
